Bah Humbug!

Not sure what it is about this holiday, but I'm glad its almost over!  I've been in a grumpy mood for most of December and Christmas Eve took me over the top.  We had a lovely time with friends and family, but for some reason, I wasn't really in the mood.  I usually love the holidays, but this year was a total bust for me.  Even the Holiday lights tour that I go on every year couldn't drag me out of my funk.  To top it all off...when we came home on Christmas Eve, after spending time with the family, I opened the car door only to have my favorite holiday platter fall out and smash to the ground!  I was very upset because I LOVED this platter and had used it during the holidays for the last 10 years!  Photos of the carnage below....anyway, I suppose it was a fitting end to the Christmas holiday and how I've been feeling this season.  On another note, I also got new glasses with Progressive lenses, and to be honest, I've been getting headaches with them.  They are a bit of an adjustment, so that just added to my malaise.  Feeling a bit like Charlie Brown this holiday.  Hopefully everyone had a better Christmas than me!  Even Ed was a downer this year, and has already started talking about taking down the tree!  Oh well, looking forward to a new year!

Ed apologized for just throwing it in the backseat of the car.  Apparently as we were driving home, it was rolling around in the back seat and when I finally opened the back door...SMACK!

Hopefully I'll be able to score another one of these...but I think it will be difficult.  It was a present from my sister many years ago.  *sigh*  Just have to keep scouring ebay for one of these.

Holiday Display

I saw this incredible Christmas/winter display in a storefront down the street from my house.  The large white deer is also animated.  It was such a lovely wintry display that I had to stop and photograph it.

I just love how sweet and simple this is!  No santa...just lights, trees and woodland creatures!

Fawn Giveaway...again! ....and more!

Ok the first time I did this it didn't go so well...hell, no one wanted my cute little Bambi figures, poor little guys!  Anyway, despite my lack of response, I'd figure I'd try this once again.  Hoping that perhaps there someone who would be interested in this fawn planter. It is in great condition with no chips, crazing, etc.  Colors are a vibrant yellow and burgundy.  I would rather it go to someone who would love it rather than just take to my local Goodwill... yes I'm a little crazy like that, attaching emotion to these "things" I've owned.  Its almost like finding a home for a pet.

Another item that I'm offering is:

Cute proverbs mini plate set.  I had mainly bought it for one particular little plate that said "curiosity killed the cat" ....and of course, the cat broke it and I almost killed him ....ALMOST!  Anyway, I don't really want the rest of the set.

Basically all you need to do is leave a comment and I'll pick one at random.  The winner will just need to give me their address and I'll mail it out to them!   If you are the lucky winner and just want one of the items, let me know and I'll choose again and the next person will win the consolation prize of the other item.  Winner will be announced in early January.

Mugsy update

I was talking to my friend Pam recently, and she was telling me about Mugsy.  Mugsy was a cat that I had rescued last year and was desperately trying to find a home for.  Her Uncle Paul was kind enough to adopt Mugsy last year and now Mugsy is now known as Blackie.  Blackie and Paul are getting along famously.  Pam has been by to see him a few times this past year and she told me that Paul is grateful for the feline companionship and she also said the Blackie is super close to Paul, staying near him at all times and following him from room to room.  I'm so happy that Blackie aka Mugsy is doing so well.  It warms my heart to know that I did a good thing in rescuing this poor baby from the mean streets of Philadelphia.  Now he lives in a nice home in a suburban area living the good life.

Its Official

Tardar Sauce aka Grumpy Cat is continuing the quest for world domination.  Recently the famous feline was featured on the Today Show earlier this week.

Memory Lane

Over the weekend, Ed decided to go through one of the countless boxes of childhood memories that his mom gave him many years ago.  Most of these boxes have been packed away for the last decade, untouched. While going down memory lane he came across some interesting things....

I had no idea that Ed had so many Mad, Cracked and Crazy magazines just sitting in his storage locker.  Most of these date from the late 70s to early 80s. I don't think they were worth anything because many of them smelled moldy from being in storage.

He also had a couple of vintage Corgi Batmobile cars that still had the original Batman and Robin to go with them.  He told me that the one on the right was accidentally left behind while his family was on vacation, and he put up such a fuss that his parents drove back almost 100 miles just to pick it up!  That's love for your child! audio postcard from Charles and Di's Royal Wedding back in 1981!  Not sure if its worth anything, but it sure is interesting.  You can see the grooves on the front of the card and you just play it on your record player.

Ed also had a huge book put out by MAD Magazine.  Inside was an inscription from his uncle sometime in the 70s.

The book is basically a "Best Of" Mad Magazine, with all the funniest bits.

Suprisingly this book still had all the stickers and inserts.

Yes, you have all you need to make a Mad mobile!

Loads of comical stuff!

There are even Mad Stencils....this book was pretty cool!  I can't believe that Ed wants to part with it!

He also had a cardboard recording, but I'm not sure if it came with the book or not.

After we dropped off a huge haul of vintage toys, books and magazines from Ed's childhood, we ventured into Goodwill.  Sadly, this trip was a disappointment and I couldn't find anything of interest....well except for this...
This was too cute...little girl with kitten!  Sadly, I passed on this, we already have too many wall hangings that are just sitting in storage!

At the front of Goodwill they have a glass case for what they consider more "valuable" items....I guess that is a matter of opinion though.

Gone with the wind plates?  I think I'll pass!

Talk about a bummer!

Every year I look forward to seeing the Crazy Target Lady doing her ads for the Target Two Day Sale that starts on Black Friday.  I was saddened to find out that her character has been retired and instead they have this couple dubbed "Deals Duet" who sing old christmas songs with reworked lyrics.  I was unfortunate enough to view one of these awful ads last night.  Seriously, you retire a hilarious character and this is the best replacement you can come up with?  So LAME!!!

I'm seriously going to miss the Crazy Target Lady....who else is going to tell me how to "win" Christmas?  *sigh*

Oh Crazy Target Lady, I'll miss your manic laugh and red track suit!

Seems like fall is going by quicker than usual this year...hard to believe that its almost Thanksgiving!Still can't quite wrap my head around that fact!  Already the airwaves are being inundated with Chrismas ads and I can't help but feel a little melancholy because I know that winter is coming.  What happened to fall?  It is my favorite time of year, but it goes by so quickly!  Winter and summer seem neverending, but Fall always goes by in a flash.  After Hurricane Sandy, most of the fall leaves have fallen off much sooner than they probably would have I'm kind of bummed that all the pretty fall colors are disappearing so quickly this year.

This is a large colorful tree on the front lawn of our condo building.  The colors were so vibrant...the photo does not do it justice.  This photo was taken just a couple of days before Hurricane Sandy hit.

Here is a photo of the same tree a couple days after Hurricane Sandy.  Makes me sad to see fall leaves disappear so quickly.

On another note, this Thanksgiving, we are headed to Atlantic City to hit one of the buffets for the holiday.  Normally we would go to his Aunt's house, but since the flood, we are now going to the Borgata.  Not quite the family gathering I envisioned...but at least we won't have to worry about cleanup or what to do with the leftovers.

Fawn Giveaway!

Awhile back I had posted that I was selling off my fawn collection.  There are still a few fawns lurking about and at this point, I'm just going to give them away.  I would prefer that they go to a good home where someone who loves kitsch and fawns will take care of them....yes I'm crazy and yes I attach feelings to inanimate objects...silly me!  Anyway, my loss is your gain!  I figure I'll do a few posts of giveaways until they are all gone.  First up are the Disney-esque Bambi's.  There are two of these sweet boys up for grabs.  All you need to do is post something in the comments and I'll choose a comment at random and bam!  You will have fawns coming your way!

My two vintage Bambi date, nor is there a Disney mark on them, but I believe they may have possibly been a fast food giveaway from the 80s....but I'm not entirely sure.

How freakin' cute is this?!!!  You know you want it!

Take me home!!!! (sorry for the crappy closeups)

Don't forget to comment if you want these cuties!!!!!  Deadline for entries is November 30th.  I'll announce the winner early December.

Hurricane Sandy

Just a matter of days before the hurricane hit, Ed and I were staying at his aunt's house in Brigantine, NJ, watching their cat Mindy.  Sadly the home has been flooded during the recent storm.  We are not sure the extent of the damage, but Ed is anxious to get down there to help with the cleanup.  We are not sure if the roads have even opened up yet.  Thankfully, his Aunt and Mindy are safe and currently staying with his grandmother, whose house was spared any flood damage.  Below are some photos that I took while we were there...looking at these now makes me sad.  Yesterday President Obama and NJ Governer Chris Christie toured the area to see the devastation.
