Memory Lane

Over the weekend, Ed decided to go through one of the countless boxes of childhood memories that his mom gave him many years ago.  Most of these boxes have been packed away for the last decade, untouched. While going down memory lane he came across some interesting things....

I had no idea that Ed had so many Mad, Cracked and Crazy magazines just sitting in his storage locker.  Most of these date from the late 70s to early 80s. I don't think they were worth anything because many of them smelled moldy from being in storage.

He also had a couple of vintage Corgi Batmobile cars that still had the original Batman and Robin to go with them.  He told me that the one on the right was accidentally left behind while his family was on vacation, and he put up such a fuss that his parents drove back almost 100 miles just to pick it up!  That's love for your child! audio postcard from Charles and Di's Royal Wedding back in 1981!  Not sure if its worth anything, but it sure is interesting.  You can see the grooves on the front of the card and you just play it on your record player.

Ed also had a huge book put out by MAD Magazine.  Inside was an inscription from his uncle sometime in the 70s.

The book is basically a "Best Of" Mad Magazine, with all the funniest bits.

Suprisingly this book still had all the stickers and inserts.

Yes, you have all you need to make a Mad mobile!

Loads of comical stuff!

There are even Mad Stencils....this book was pretty cool!  I can't believe that Ed wants to part with it!

He also had a cardboard recording, but I'm not sure if it came with the book or not.

After we dropped off a huge haul of vintage toys, books and magazines from Ed's childhood, we ventured into Goodwill.  Sadly, this trip was a disappointment and I couldn't find anything of interest....well except for this...
This was too cute...little girl with kitten!  Sadly, I passed on this, we already have too many wall hangings that are just sitting in storage!

At the front of Goodwill they have a glass case for what they consider more "valuable" items....I guess that is a matter of opinion though.

Gone with the wind plates?  I think I'll pass!

Talk about a bummer!

Every year I look forward to seeing the Crazy Target Lady doing her ads for the Target Two Day Sale that starts on Black Friday.  I was saddened to find out that her character has been retired and instead they have this couple dubbed "Deals Duet" who sing old christmas songs with reworked lyrics.  I was unfortunate enough to view one of these awful ads last night.  Seriously, you retire a hilarious character and this is the best replacement you can come up with?  So LAME!!!

I'm seriously going to miss the Crazy Target Lady....who else is going to tell me how to "win" Christmas?  *sigh*

Oh Crazy Target Lady, I'll miss your manic laugh and red track suit!

Seems like fall is going by quicker than usual this year...hard to believe that its almost Thanksgiving!Still can't quite wrap my head around that fact!  Already the airwaves are being inundated with Chrismas ads and I can't help but feel a little melancholy because I know that winter is coming.  What happened to fall?  It is my favorite time of year, but it goes by so quickly!  Winter and summer seem neverending, but Fall always goes by in a flash.  After Hurricane Sandy, most of the fall leaves have fallen off much sooner than they probably would have I'm kind of bummed that all the pretty fall colors are disappearing so quickly this year.

This is a large colorful tree on the front lawn of our condo building.  The colors were so vibrant...the photo does not do it justice.  This photo was taken just a couple of days before Hurricane Sandy hit.

Here is a photo of the same tree a couple days after Hurricane Sandy.  Makes me sad to see fall leaves disappear so quickly.

On another note, this Thanksgiving, we are headed to Atlantic City to hit one of the buffets for the holiday.  Normally we would go to his Aunt's house, but since the flood, we are now going to the Borgata.  Not quite the family gathering I envisioned...but at least we won't have to worry about cleanup or what to do with the leftovers.

Fawn Giveaway!

Awhile back I had posted that I was selling off my fawn collection.  There are still a few fawns lurking about and at this point, I'm just going to give them away.  I would prefer that they go to a good home where someone who loves kitsch and fawns will take care of them....yes I'm crazy and yes I attach feelings to inanimate objects...silly me!  Anyway, my loss is your gain!  I figure I'll do a few posts of giveaways until they are all gone.  First up are the Disney-esque Bambi's.  There are two of these sweet boys up for grabs.  All you need to do is post something in the comments and I'll choose a comment at random and bam!  You will have fawns coming your way!

My two vintage Bambi date, nor is there a Disney mark on them, but I believe they may have possibly been a fast food giveaway from the 80s....but I'm not entirely sure.

How freakin' cute is this?!!!  You know you want it!

Take me home!!!! (sorry for the crappy closeups)

Don't forget to comment if you want these cuties!!!!!  Deadline for entries is November 30th.  I'll announce the winner early December.

Hurricane Sandy

Just a matter of days before the hurricane hit, Ed and I were staying at his aunt's house in Brigantine, NJ, watching their cat Mindy.  Sadly the home has been flooded during the recent storm.  We are not sure the extent of the damage, but Ed is anxious to get down there to help with the cleanup.  We are not sure if the roads have even opened up yet.  Thankfully, his Aunt and Mindy are safe and currently staying with his grandmother, whose house was spared any flood damage.  Below are some photos that I took while we were there...looking at these now makes me sad.  Yesterday President Obama and NJ Governer Chris Christie toured the area to see the devastation.
