Garage Sale Goodies

Over the weekend, I went to a big garage sale at a local church.  They have it every year, and I've always managed to get some amazing things.  This year wasn't as good as previous years, but I still managed to get some great things.

Picked up this cute little mini plate (its really an ashtray) from Ireland.  I loved the little kitty graphic on this!  I mainly bought it because it reminded me of my grandparents who were born in Ireland.  There was also another plate that said "May your glass be ever full,
May the roof over your head be always strong,
And may you be in heaven
Half an hour before the devil knows you're dead."
I was really tempted to get it because my grandparents had a similar one hanging in their home...but had second thoughts and then when I went back to see if it was still there, someone had already taken it.

Yes, another item with a cat!  I loved this little cutie!

I put her in the bathroom with my circus cup that I got for .10 about 7 years ago at another church garage sale.

There is more...but I didn't have time to take any more photos this morning.

50th Wedding Anniversary

Yesterday, my parents celebrated 50 years of marriage.  We celebrated with friends and family and everyone had a wonderful time.  My parents were very touched by all the people who came out for the celebration.  Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

My Mom & Dad dancing at the start of the celebration.

This was a re-creation of their original wedding cake.  We sent the bakery photos of the cake that they had at their wedding, and they did a fantastic job.  The topper is vintage, that my sister got on Ebay.  It is almost identical to the one they had at their wedding back in 1963....at first I thought it was the original, but my mom said that she had threw it away a long time ago because it got damaged.

Cake was delicious!

Can't Help Falling in Love

Me on my first communion, with my parents circa 1972.

In honor of my parent's 50th wedding anniversary, my sister put this incredible video using all our old photos.  Its hard to believe that they have been married to each other for so long!  Me my brother and sister are throwing them a 50th anniversary luncheon at a local country club near their home, no surprises though...not a good idea to scare people their age...ha ha!...I'm kidding mom!  It will be nice for them to see friends and family that they haven't seen in years.

My mom and dad on my dad's 70th birthday celebration in November 2011.  My dad is sporting a pilgrim hat that my nephew Sean made for him.

Shopping Spree

The other day I was in West Elm.  Now I know that they can be pricey for the most part, but when they have sales, you can get some really great deals.  I got a king duvet cover with two king shams for under $50 last year.

West Elm King Duvet Set for under $50!  Sorry the bed looks kind of sloppy!

I also had gotten some really cool tea towels around the same time, that went well with the kitchen colors.  Lately I've noticed that the tea towels were starting to look a little beat up from stains and washing over the last year and a half.
My Scandinavian Tree tea towels from West Elm.  Sadly, they no longer have these available!

So, after being sick of looking at my ratty looking towels, I decided to head back to West Elm to check out what they had on sale.  I gotta say, the clearance choices were underwhelming, so I left the store empty handed.  Since it was such a nice day, I figured, what the heck!  I'll head over to Marshall's to see what they had.  I wasn't expecting to find anything, and I almost walked out of there too, until I spotted these.....

The best part is...they are only $1.99 each!  Score!!  The teal matches the color on my walls, and I love the color combinations in the towels.

Trash Find!

It seems like ages since I've done any trash picking!  Haven't done it so much since my dog Aspen passed away.  I miss those long walks around the neighborhood and having him help me sniff out treasures on the curbside.  The building where Ed lives used to be a hot bed of amazing trash finds, but since I moved in with him, the pickin's haven't been so great.  Well, last night, Finally, after months and months of not finding any great trash finds, I finally found something interesting!

Ed and I were headed over the gym, and in the dumpster room of our building,  I spotted this interesting painting.  I showed it to Ed and he asked me if I wanted it.  At the time I wasn't sure, I told him that I'll leave it there for now and if it was still there when we returned...it was meant to be.  Well apparently it WAS meant to be because as soon as we came back, I headed to the dumpster room and found it!  Even Ed, who is trying NOT to trash pick liked this painting and was willing to let me bring this home.  I think it is a simple painting and very modern and pop arty (is that a word?), which is why I think it appealed to both of us.  I love the black and white against the bright blue.  It reminds me of a comic book drawing. Now all I need to do is find a prominent  place to hang him!
