In just 2 days....

Living room with some of my finds from garage sale past (please ignore the wrinkly sofa cover!)

The Mega-Huge church garage sale is back! I have to say, this is absolutely the best church garage sale I've ever been to! Last year I spent less than $20 and came home with tons of stuff! I'm so excited, I can't think of anything else! This year I'm bringing one of those large blue Ikea bags to cart stuff around. That way I don't have to run back to the car as often! It is held in the Main Line section in the Philadelphia suburbs, which is a very well-to-do area, so you know may of these cast-offs are of quality. If you have ever seen the film Philadelphia Story, it gives you an idea of the Old Money in the area.  This is about the only time you'll find me anywhere near a church!

Faux Sheepskin Rug!

There's nothing like a furry rug under your feet first thing in the morning.  Sadly, I cannot condone killing an animal in order to have that luxury.....IKEA to the rescue!  They have come out with an animal friendly option...the Oleby rug!  It looks like sheepskin, and has the distinctive animal shape, but it is 80% micro-acrylic and 20% polyester, and best of all, it’s only $14.99! It looks and feels very convincing and I was more than happy to buy them.  Being an animal lover, I could not justify buying the real this is a great alternative for those folks who cringe at animal pelts and deer heads.  Sadly, my computer is being worked on, so I have no photos of my own to post...but through the magic of the internets...I came across these lovely photos of the Oleby rug....ENJOY!

These bedroom shots are lovely, and I've used the rugs in a similar way in my own bedroom.

I may have steal this idea and get one for my fiberglass chair!  It really looks great!

At Young House Love they have made their own versions of the faux sheepskin rug using a shag rug and a flokati rug.  The results are fantastic!  I have an old flokati just laying about...I may have to put it to good use with this idea!

Here is the flokati rug version:

Wary Meyers

What some view as trash, Linda and John Meyers see as raw material. The wife-and-husband team are subscribers to the “reduce, reuse, recycle” ethos, as am I. Its great that they can look past the shabbiness of an object and create something new and different. They have fantastic ideas and can see great potential in their trash finds. Their book Tossed and Found is wonderful and creative and I highly recommend that you check it out.

The Meyers' bedroom, complete with giant cat tree!

I totally dig their style.  There is a bohemian late 60s early 70s vibe in their home....a look I would love to cultivate for my own home.  Besides their book they have a fabulous blog that I've subscribed to for years...and now they have unveiled the Wary Meyers Shop! I'm incredibly excited to check it out. They really have an eye for wonderful bohemian items!  In the shop you can find vintage books, lighting, art and even vintage clothing.  Some of the stuff can be a bit expensive, but I find it can be a valuable resource for inspiration.

Will Ferrell on The Office

Will Ferrell made his debut on The Office as Michael Scott's temporary replacement.  His character's name is Deangelo Vickars...I'm sure Ferrell had a hand in making up that goofy name!  My favorite part of the show had to be toward the end when Pam and Jim are showing him their baby.  He tells them how cute she is....then it cuts to him be interviewed by the filmmaker saying the following:  "That baby could be the star of a show called Babies I Don't Care About." - Deangelo  That line just cracked me up!  Happy Friday Everyone!

When Harry Met Sally

Over the weekend, I managed to catch When Harry Met Sally on TV.  It has been one of my favorite films of the romantic comedy genre.  There are many hilarious insights on relationships, but this one has to be my favorite:

"Do me a favor, for your own good, put your name in your books right now before they get mixed up and you won't know whose is whose. 'Cause someday, believe it or not, you'll go 15 rounds over who's gonna get this coffee table. This stupid, wagon wheel, Roy Rogers, garage sale COFFEE TABLE!"

The Facts of Life

When I was 14, my favorite show was "Facts of Life".  The girls, recently reunited for the 9th Annual TV Land Awards.  Even Mrs. Garrett  and Geri were there!  Seeing them together really brought back memories for me.  My sister and I loved this show, and never missed an episode.  It made me wish that I went to their school.  During the first season, there were many more girls, including Molly Ringwald, whom me and my sister dubbed "just awful" as an actress back then.  Just watch those episodes from the first season and you'll see what I'm talking about!  She was incredibly annoying and over-acted in every scene...although she was much improved when years  later she appeared in "Sixteen Candles".

Good Grief!  I see that photo of Molly and I want to punch her in the mouth!  Look at that fake smile!  GRRRR!!!!!  She was such a whiny little brat on that show!

By the second season, they got rid of half of the girls, including Molly, and brought in Joe, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, who get Blair, Tootie and Natalie into trouble and they have to be separated from the rest of the girls and forced to do labor in the cafeteria under the watching eye of Mrs. Garrett.  They also brought in Geri, who was a Blair's cousin, who had cerebral palsy...the first time I've ever seen someone with cerebral palsy on a TV show.

"The Facts of Life" had an incredible nine season run on NBC. Mindy Cohn, Geri Jewell, Cloris Leachman, Nancy McKeon, Charlotte Rae, and Lisa Whelchel were together on the red carpet. Unfortunately, Kim Fields arrived late, so she wasn't able to take a photo with her former cast-mates at the TV Land Awards....although Mindy is suspiciously missing from this photo...I wonder where she is?

Anyway, I grew up with these girls and could totally relate to their problems on the show.  I do have some episodes on VHS tape that I cannot seem to get rid of...guess I'll have to watch them sometime soon.  I think the reason for the popularity of the show is the fact that you could relate to the girls.  I never truly identified with just one of the girls, but there were aspects of each of their personalities that I could identify with, and I think that was true with many of the girls who watched the show when it aired.

Spring is in the air

OK....the weather may not be cooperating just yet, but one sure sign of spring is flea markets and garage sales.  I've already started sniffing out notices of some upcoming sales in the coming weeks.  Really looking forward to getting some fabulous deals.  Last year I hit it big with a mega-huge church garage sale last year...and this year the same sale is being held on April 30th and May 1st...cannot is the best I've seen!
