This past weekend

Ok...Ikea was a bust on Friday.  Ed and I talked ourselves out of buying anything new for the moment, which made me wonder why the hell we even bothered to go to Ikea in the first place.  It was nice to walk through the showroom and goof around and check out what furniture they had and get some inspiration on how to arrange the furniture in our home.  This week I'll try to clean up the old bedroom furniture and use a scratch cover on the parts where kitties past and present have scratched up the tops with their claws.  Eventually I would like to replace it, but Ed thinks we should wait until we get rid of all the excess stuff at the house now.  I have to agree with him because even if we did get new furniture, we would have nowhere to put it!

Over the weekend we made a large donation of stuff to Goodwill and then we went inside to see if they had any cool, cheap furniture...they only had the latter, and let me tell ya...it was UG....LEEE!  I did find some interesting items, that I was not allowed to buy, because we don't "need" it.

I fell in love with this speckle 70s style pattern!  We already have a ton of plates, and Ed advised me to step away.  I at least took a photo of it so I could remember its grooviness!
If I ever decide to look for this pattern, at least I know what its called now.

I thought this piece was interesting, its a little pot that's a puzzle.  you take the lid off and take it apart and then put it back together again.  It was hard to resist taking this thing apart...oh who am I kidding, I did try to take it apart and couldn't figure it out!  After I made sure that no one was watching, I slowly put back the lid and slinked away in shame for my puzzle shortcomings.

I must say, I'm a sucker for cute cookie jars in the shapes of animals.  But as I walked up to it, Ed was giving me the stink eye.  Seriously, how cute is this little fellow??

Ed called me over to look at this piece, just like his mug collection that we had brought in just a few moments before.   We had a good laugh about finding that.

Not sure what this fertility goddess was doing among the bowls and plates.  I'm assuming she's a fertility goddess of sorts because she looks pregnant.  She was tempting, because she was interesting looking, but I decided to pass....at my age, I don't need to get pregnant!

Not sure what that two tiered wood tray on the middle shelf was for, but I liked the look of it.  In the past I would have snatched that right up and then it would sit in a cupboard for several years...now I must find a purpose for items before I bring them into the house.

I did have to let go of a few things this weekend though...such as my Velvet matadors and my huge painting that was found in the trash.  I just hope that they go to a good home where someone appreciated them as much as I did.

Goodbye "Velvedors"  I'll miss you in all your velvety glory!

Goodbye 60s art student painting!  I'll miss your trippy colors!

That two-tiered wooden tray is to put on top of a man's dresser. It's a place for him to throw keys, cufflinks, coins and other stuff from his pockets at night.

Too bad about the paintings. But you'll always have your photos.

Ah! I didn't know what it was...thanks for clarifying that for me. Guess men don't really wear cufflinks like they used to.

Re: the paintings, between the two of us we have tons of artwork still, even after giving a large pile to Goodwill. There is one more velvet matador hanging in the bedroom, which I'm sort of hanging on to because I had found it with my dog Aspen who passed away last year. Seeing it reminds me of him, so for now it stays.

The phrase "velevdors" cracked me up! I might have had to take that pair home. Good practice of self control on your part! And it's kind of neat just to window shop sometimes. :)

Haha! I wish I could take credit for the "Velvedors" name but that would go to the girl whom I purchased them from. She was quite chatty and told me a sad story about how she had a giant velvet Elvis, but that it was ripped during her last move...and I swear I thought I saw a tear come to her eye!
Would a velvet Elvis be a "Velvis"? I bet it would!
