High Strung

Last night my boyfriend and I were bored, there were no football games on TV...except the Pro Bowl *Yawn*  so we decided to watch a movie.  He asked me if I had ever seen High Strung and I told him no.  He looked shocked that I had not viewed this cult classic and said that we had to watch it, especially since its one of his favorite films.  It stars Steve Oedekerk as Thane Furrows, an uptight children's author who rarely leaves his house, eats only cereal, and is irritated by everything around him. The film also stars Thomas F. Wilson, Fred Willard, Denise Crosby and Jim Carrey.

The film centers around Thane Furrows (Oedekerk), who spends the day messing around his apartment and complaining about a number of random subjects, among other things, flies, watermelon popsicles, junk mail, his boss' wife, his upstairs neighbor, smoking, salesmen, and philosophizes on a number of things such as the morality of eating humans and the sensibility of keeping pets. A number of minor annoyances also perturb him throughout the day: a fly lands on his cereal at breakfast, which he inadvertently eats; an insurance salesman named Ray comes to the door, to which Furrows responds by feigning interest and, shortly after promising to take out a number of policies, slams the door in Ray's face with the words "I'd rather be dead"; an automated survey about carpet cleaning calls him repeatedly; his boss' wife comes by to pick up a book he was writing, and he (eventually) tells her off and has most likely lost his job (although he's not quite sure).

However, the day proves to be much different than normal when Thane begins to recieve strange phone calls, letters, and voices in his head, all indicating that something will happen at 8 o'clock. As the day goes on, Thane rants and raves about the things that annoy him and seems to reach a fevered pitch, as the clock slowly ticks closer and closer to his destiny.

Below are some of my favorite scenes from the film:

Still looking for the cereal and milk rant that he does in the beginning of the film...very funny stuff! Enjoy!

Ok, I'm not into doing any work today...so I made this cute picture for my desktop!

Having some Photoshop fun at work!  I think that this truly captures the personalities of my pets!

Snowy Day

My area got hit with about a foot of snow last night....but sadly, no day off from work!  At least I got to go in late.  Here are some snaps I took while walking my dog.

 Not everyone has shoveled yet.

 Roads are quite a mess

My dog loves to eat the fresh snow

Snow looks beautiful and makes everything look so clean

Snow is kind of heavy on these branches....hopefully we wont have any limbs falling down soon.

More snow eating....this dog can't get enough of it.

Ugh!  I can't believe I have to trudge through this crap to get to work!

 Gee!  Thanks for shoveling neighbor!!!

Aspen loves to frolic in the snow...as only a 15 1/2 year old Samoyed can do.

Oops, we fall down!  Aspen was barking at me at this time....and what do I do?  I take his picture of course!

I don't mind snow, as long as I don't have to go out in it...

My car is buried around here somewhere....

I'm not even going to bother to go down this street.

Taking my life into my own hands by photographing this...snow was falling off as I was snapping away.

It does look pretty!

New Trash Find!

Found this last week amongst a pile of trash.  It's a nice little solid piece of furniture.  It has magazine slots on either side.  Was initially painted white, with some paint spillage on the top.  I just sanded it down and gave it a sexy coat of red paint.....that's right I said SEXY!  Looks great with my other table lamp combo with a red shade.  Sorry I don't have a before pic...I was anxious to slap on some paint when I found it.

The table also matches my red velvet matador painting too!

Its hard to tell, but the shade on the table lamp is red too.

Utter Humiliation!

This dumb bitch has the nerve to sue the mall because she was stupid enough to walk into the fountain because she was too busy texting! I think that the mall should sue her for her stupidity and reckless texting!

Thrifty Finds!

Uhuru Furniture is a local thrift store near my work.  All purchases benefit the African People’s Education and Defense Fund, and the salespeople are rather aggressive when it comes to their cause, but if you can deal with listening to their spiel for a minute or two, you can explore some rather excellent deals on furniture.  Recently they had a Retro Salon chair for $50...which has now been reduced to $35.  I'm incredibly tempted...but I honestly do not have the space for such a fun piece.  As I was checking out their site, I found a lot of other amazing things...and a lot of them are incredibly cheap!

$150 for this gorgeous carved Asian trunk

Reduced from $50 to $35....very tempting!

I may need to pick up a couple of these...at $25 for 1 and $35 for 2...its a steal!

Sadly, this very groovy buffet was SOLD

These cane chairs are $125 for all four!

They are asking $150 for this leather chair...not to shabby, although it looks like it needs a good cleaning!

This gorgeous shelving from the 20s is $150

Only $95 for the Faux Bamboo style desk and chair

Woot! New Issue of Lonny is out!

The Jan/Feb. issue of Lonny is now online!  This is one of my favorite issues so far!  So much color, and so much inspiration!  Below are some of my favorite images from the latest issue!  Hope they inspire you as they have inspired me.

Love the patterns on these pillows!

Such a fun and funky room!  I need to find a similar vintage lamp for my place!

Andy Warhol would be proud!

Butterflies!  Need I say more?

That teal color is gorgeous!

A very Asian inspired room.  Interesting shape on the sofa.

The dining area is so inviting.  Love the crisp white of the table and chairs.  Also love the vanity stool in the hallway.

That gigantic plushy ottoman is awesome!

 Gorgeous balcony setup!
Nothing wrong with a bit of orange!  Lovin' the shape and color of that chair.

I totally love the bedroom photo in the top right corner.  It looks so peaceful and serene.

The long sheer drapes are lovely, definitely reminiscent of the 60s and 70s.  I think that drapes should make a comeback!

Totally digging that glass coffee table with the zebra print rug.  Also love the look of the furry flokati rug and the boomerang shaped table.

Vintage photos of Lily Pulitzer in the 60s.....Groovy!!!

More Photos

As I was cleaning out pictures on my cell phone, I found a few more cruise photos.  Most of these were taken on the last day or two of the cruise.

For some odd reason, I could not get a clear shot of the opening of this gothic bar!

Inside the gothic themed nightclub.  It was very dark in here.

Gargolye? or perhaps some ugly dude.

Stained glass with some medieval babes.

Giant Tiki with some holiday decorations

This was where the elevators are.  This was taken from the 5th Floor looking up.  Making me a bit dizzy.

Taken shortly after we left the ship.  There were tons of people waiting for taxis

Part of our party waiting for the taxi to take us to the airport.  We were all pretty somber by this time...especially since we knew snow was waiting for us at home.
